A new type of guild.
I've been thinking about old style guilds lately, and they used to dominate production and manufacturing in the past.
Of course they would do that through extreme protection of their intellectual property. And now, hundreds of years later, they have methods and techniques lost to time, possible never to be reproduced again.
In other words, wasted.
I've been thinking about starting a 'guild', something that's geared toward it's members sharing their knowledge. Maybe not a guild but a society like IEEE.
To join (maybe free, maybe tiered)?, you would have to pledge a couple things:
- Ideas, alone, are without value.
- Implementation of said ideas are the only thing that gives them any meaning.
- Ideas and knowledge should be free, and shared as widely as possible, to ensure that they can be brought to life.
Or something along those lines. The idea being that people who join pledge to basically open culture/open source their work.
There is, of course, nothing wrong with asking for resources for your work, otherwise, you'd disappear, and not be able to implement your ideas.
But locking up ideas and thoughts isn't a good thing.
