Adventures in resin
I've recently been playing around with some uv resins. They're pretty neat in what they can do, and how flexible controlled curing can be.
I've learned some nice lessons and tips from a couple of trials though.
I used to start with adding a clear base layer, curing that, and adding my pattern on top of that. Unfortunately, due to surface tension, and the fact that the resin shrinks as it dries, it doesn't dry completely flat. It curves upwards on the edges of the metal pieces I am putting art into. This lets light around any colored pieces, and looks rather meh.
Secondly, I used to add powder into my charm frame, then add resin and mix it all up. Sadly... My mixing isn't always all that great, and I'll get pockets of unused mica. Ew. I'll start mixing and adding the fully mixed color into the frame.
Lessions learned though.
